What was the name of the 1858–1859 gold rush centered on present-day Denver and the Colorado Front Range?

The story behind the answer

The Pike’s Peak Gold Rush was the 1858–1859 gold rush centered on present-day Denver and Colorado’s Front Range.

Gold discoveries near the South Platte River and Cherry Creek attracted prospectors from the eastern United States and other western settlements. Promotional slogans such as “Pike’s Peak or Bust” encouraged migration even though many travelers never reached the mountain itself.

The rush helped produce new towns, transportation routes, businesses, and political institutions. Denver was founded in 1858 during this period and became the principal urban center of the region.

The name was partly promotional: the richest discoveries were not located at Pikes Peak. The rush also contributed to the organization of Colorado Territory in 1861, separating the area from surrounding territories and states.
