What was the name of SpaceX’s first crewed spacecraft?
Answer
Crew Dragon
Answer
Crew Dragon
Crew Dragon was the name of SpaceX’s first crewed spacecraft.
Crew Dragon, also called Dragon 2, was developed to carry astronauts to and from low Earth orbit. Its first crewed flight, Demo-2, launched on May 30, 2020, carrying NASA astronauts Robert Behnken and Douglas Hurley to the International Space Station.
The spacecraft evolved from SpaceX’s original Dragon capsule, which was designed primarily for cargo. Crew Dragon added life-support systems, crew displays, seats, windows, emergency-abort capability, and other equipment needed for human spaceflight.
The name can be confused with Cargo Dragon, the uncrewed version used for station resupply. Crew Dragon launches on a Falcon 9 and returns with a splashdown, while SpaceX’s Starship is a separate, much larger spacecraft and launch-system program.
