What was the name of Parshvanatha's father?

The story behind the answer

Parshvanatha’s father was King Ashvasena, also rendered Aśvasena.

Parshvanatha was the 23rd of Jainism’s 24 Tirthankaras and is traditionally said to have been born in Varanasi, in the kingdom of Kashi. Jain accounts name his mother as Vamadevi and his father as King Ashvasena. He belonged to the Ikshvaku dynasty and is associated with a serpent emblem, reflected in the cobra hood commonly shown above his head.

Parshvanatha is especially important because historians generally regard him as the earliest Tirthankara with a substantial historical basis, although details in traditional biographies are mixed with legendary material. Jain tradition credits him with teaching four major restraints, later expanded by Mahavira into the five vows followed by Jain ascetics and lay followers.

The name Ashvasena can appear with different transliterations, including Aśvasena and Asvasena. Those spellings refer to the same figure. He should not be confused with Siddhartha, the father of Mahavira, or Nabhi, the father of the first Tirthankara, Rishabhanatha.
