Speedee was McDonald's original early mascot, a small chef-like character used before Ronald McDonald.
Speedee represented the McDonald's Speedee Service System, the streamlined operating method developed by Richard and Maurice McDonald at their San Bernardino restaurant. The character was commonly shown as a chef with a hamburger-shaped face and was associated with speed and efficient service.
As McDonald's branding evolved, Speedee became less prominent and Ronald McDonald took over as the company's best-known mascot. Speedee should not be confused with the later Golden Arches symbol: one was a character linked to the service system, while the other became the visual emblem of the restaurant chain.
