“I’m Lovin’ It” was McDonald’s first global advertising slogan in English, launched in 2003.
The campaign marked a major branding shift toward one phrase used across many countries and markets. Its informal wording was designed to sound conversational and positive, while the slogan’s musical identity helped connect television, radio and other advertising formats.
McDonald’s introduced the campaign in Munich, Germany, in September 2003, before rolling it out internationally. The launch was supported by the “ba da ba ba ba” jingle, which became closely associated with the phrase.
The slogan is sometimes confused with earlier McDonald’s taglines such as “You Deserve a Break Today” and “We Love to See You Smile.” Those slogans belonged to earlier campaigns. “I’m Lovin’ It” became the long-running global platform and remains one of the company’s most recognizable branding lines.
