Mayor McCheese was McDonald’s fictional mayor whose head was shaped like a cheeseburger.
The character was one of the best-known residents of McDonaldland, the fantasy setting used in McDonald’s advertising. He wore formal mayoral clothing, including a top hat and sash, while his oversized cheeseburger head connected the character directly to the restaurant’s food branding.
Mayor McCheese helped McDonald’s present its products through recurring stories and personalities rather than through standalone product descriptions. He appeared alongside figures such as Ronald McDonald, the Hamburglar, Grimace, and Officer Big Mac.
The character should not be confused with Officer Big Mac, whose head resembled a Big Mac and whose role involved quality control. Mayor McCheese’s defining identity was civic leadership within the fictional McDonaldland setting.
