McCafé was the coffee brand first introduced by McDonald's in Australia in 1993.
McCafé began as a café-style concept at a Melbourne McDonald's restaurant. Its branding distinguished espresso drinks and café products from the standard quick-service menu. The concept used dedicated signage and a more coffeehouse-oriented presentation, helping McDonald's compete for customers who wanted specialty coffee as well as a meal.
The Australian launch was significant because it created a new sub-brand inside the larger McDonald's identity. Rather than abandoning the Golden Arches, the company used a separate name to signal a different product category and atmosphere. McCafé subsequently expanded to many other countries.
“McCoffee” and similar names are understandable guesses because McDonald's often uses the “Mc” prefix. They are not the historical brand name. The correct spelling is McCafé, with the café accent commonly used in the brand's official presentation.
