What was the name of J.R.R. Tolkien’s invented language used by the Elves of Valinor?

The story behind the answer

Quenya was J.R.R. Tolkien’s invented language used by the Elves of Valinor.

Quenya is one of the major Elvish languages in Tolkien’s legendarium. It was associated especially with the High Elves, including the Noldor and Vanyar, and was inspired in part by the sounds and structures of Finnish. Tolkien developed its vocabulary and grammar over many years, revising details as his mythology changed.

Quenya is often compared with Sindarin, another major Elvish language. In the later history of Middle-earth, Sindarin became more widely spoken in Beleriand and much of Middle-earth, while Quenya retained an elevated or ceremonial role. Khuzdul is the language of the Dwarves, and the Black Speech was created by Sauron. Quenya’s status and details vary across Tolkien’s drafts, but its association with the High Elves is a consistent feature of the mature legendarium.
