Georgia O'Keeffe's New Mexico house with the famous blocked-up wall was her Abiquiú house.
O'Keeffe discovered the Abiquiú property during the 1930s and eventually bought it in 1945. The house had been neglected, but she worked with assistants to restore it and adapt it to her needs. Its courtyard wall, containing a door surrounded by adobe, became a recurring subject in her paintings.
The door is often discussed because O'Keeffe said she had painted it many times and that it was a personal symbol of the house. The property is distinct from Ghost Ranch, where she also lived and worked. Both places were in northern New Mexico, but the Abiquiú house became her permanent home and is now preserved as a historic site.
