What was the name of Georgia O'Keeffe's New Mexico home with a famous black door?

The story behind the answer

Georgia O'Keeffe's New Mexico home with a famous black door was her Abiquiu house.

O'Keeffe purchased the abandoned adobe compound in Abiquiu, New Mexico, in 1945 after admiring it for years. The property included a courtyard wall and a black door that she repeatedly photographed and painted. The door, seen through a wall opening, became one of her best-known architectural subjects.

Architect Juan Hamilton helped O'Keeffe renovate the house in the late 1940s. The restored compound became both a residence and a working studio. Its design preserved adobe construction while creating spaces suited to O'Keeffe's highly organized working life. She lived there for much of the year after making New Mexico her permanent home.

The Abiquiu property is often confused with Ghost Ranch, another New Mexico location strongly associated with O'Keeffe. Ghost Ranch provided dramatic landscapes and a separate home and studio environment, while the famous black-door motif belongs specifically to the Abiquiu house. The property is now preserved as a historic site.
