What was the name of Georgia O'Keeffe's New Mexico home that became a National Historic Landmark?

The story behind the answer

Georgia O'Keeffe's New Mexico home that became a National Historic Landmark is the Georgia O'Keeffe Home and Studio in Abiquiú.

O'Keeffe acquired the abandoned adobe house in Abiquiú in 1945 and had it renovated under the direction of architect Juan Hamilton. She moved into it in 1949, and the building became both her home and a working studio. Its courtyard wall and distinctive black door appear in several of her paintings.

The property reflects O'Keeffe's interest in architecture as well as landscape. She preserved and adapted the adobe structure rather than treating it as a neutral backdrop. The house's views of the surrounding terrain and its carefully controlled spaces supported her highly focused working routine.

The National Park Service designated the Georgia O'Keeffe Home and Studio a National Historic Landmark in 1998. It is distinct from Ghost Ranch, another important place in her New Mexico life. The two locations are both associated with O'Keeffe, but the Abiquiú property was her principal home and studio.
