What was the name of Genghis Khan's father?
Answer
Yesugei
Answer
Yesugei
Genghis Khan’s father was named Yesugei.
Yesugei, also written Yesükhei or Yesügei Baghatur, was a major chief of the Khamag Mongol confederation. He belonged to the Borjigin family and was the son of Bartan Baghatur, making him part of the lineage from which Genghis Khan emerged.
Yesugei and his wife Hö'elün had several children, including Temüjin, the boy who later united the Mongol tribes and became known as Genghis Khan. Yesugei also had a second wife, Sochigel, with whom he had Behter and Belgutei.
Yesugei died when Temüjin was still young, traditionally after being poisoned by Tatars. His death left the family politically vulnerable, and the clan was abandoned by many followers. That difficult period became an important part of Temüjin’s early life, shaping the alliances, rivalries, and survival skills that later helped him build the Mongol Empire.
