What was the name of East 17’s 1994 UK Christmas number-one single?

East 17’s 1994 UK Christmas number-one single was “Stay Another Day.” The song was written by Tony Mortimer, who also performed lead vocals on the recording.

Although East 17 were generally associated with hip-hop-influenced pop and energetic dance tracks, “Stay Another Day” was a slower, emotional ballad. Its win at Christmas gave the group their biggest UK chart success and made the song a recurring seasonal favorite.

The record is sometimes treated as a Christmas song because of its release timing and win, even though its lyrics do not explicitly describe Christmas. East 17 had formed in Walthamstow, London, and the group became one of the most commercially successful British boy bands of the 1990s. “Stay Another Day” remains their signature recording.
