What was the name of C.S. Lewis’s brother and lifelong close companion?
Answer
Warren Lewis
Answer
Warren Lewis
C.S. Lewis’s brother and lifelong close companion was Warren Lewis.
Warren Hamilton Lewis, usually called Warnie, was born in 1895, three years before his younger brother. The brothers shared a childhood interest in mythology and invented stories, and they remained closely connected through adulthood.
Warren served in the British Army during the First World War and later became a historian. After retiring from military service, he lived with C.S. Lewis at The Kilns near Oxford and helped manage the household.
Warren also preserved valuable records of his brother’s life. His diaries and memoirs are important sources for Lewis biographers, although they naturally reflect the perspective of a devoted sibling. Warren died in 1973, a decade after C.S. Lewis.
