What was the name of Beyoncé’s group before she became a solo artist?

The story behind the answer

Before becoming a solo artist, Beyoncé performed with the group Destiny's Child.

The group developed from a Houston singing project originally known as Girl's Tyme. Its members competed on the television program Star Search in 1993, although they did not win. After lineup changes and a move toward a professional recording career, the group adopted the name Destiny's Child.

Destiny's Child became one of the best-selling female groups in music history. The best-known lineup consisted of Beyoncé Knowles, Kelly Rowland, and Michelle Williams. Their major hits included “Say My Name,” “Survivor,” and “Bootylicious.” The group announced a temporary separation in 2002 and later reunited for performances, but Beyoncé's solo career continued to expand.

The name is sometimes shortened casually to “Destiny,” but the canonical group name is Destiny's Child. It should also not be confused with Beyoncé's later backing musicians, who were not the original vocal group.
