Apple's first smartphone released in 2007 was the iPhone.
Steve Jobs unveiled the original iPhone on January 9, 2007, at Macworld in San Francisco. Apple presented it as three products in one: a mobile phone, a widescreen iPod, and an internet communicator. Its 3.5-inch multitouch display and software-based interface helped distinguish it from button-heavy phones of the period.
The first-generation model went on sale in the United States on June 29, 2007, through Cingular Wireless, later known as AT&T. It initially came with 4GB or 8GB of storage and required a two-year service contract. Apple later released a 16GB version in 2008.
A common mix-up is calling this model the “iPhone 2G” or “iPhone 1.” Those are later descriptive names; Apple simply called it iPhone. The iPhone 3G was its successor, announced in 2008, while the iPod touch was a separate device without cellular phone capability.
