Taylor Swift’s “august” reached number 23 on the US Billboard Hot 100.
The song entered the Hot 100 after Folklore’s release in 2020 and remained on the chart for two consecutive weeks. Its initial chart performance was driven by the album’s strong debut and Swift’s unusually successful surprise-release strategy during the pandemic.
The number 23 peak is sometimes confused with the song’s results on other charts. “August” reached number five on Billboard’s Hot Rock & Alternative Songs chart, while its later international and global peaks were different again. Seasonal streaming helped the track return to attention after its original chart run.
That annual pattern became one of the song’s defining features. Its title, late-summer imagery, and recurring online fan activity create a predictable August lift. Even so, the original US Hot 100 peak remains number 23, not the higher positions achieved on genre-specific or later international charts.
