What was the full name of C.S. Lewis, the author of The Chronicles of Narnia?

The story behind the answer

The full name of C.S. Lewis was Clive Staples Lewis.

He was born in Belfast, Ireland, on 29 November 1898. The initials “C.S.” came from his first and middle names, rather than representing a pen name. Friends and family often called him Jack, a nickname he adopted in childhood after the death of a childhood dog named Jacksie.

Lewis became one of the twentieth century’s best-known Christian writers and literary scholars. His books include The Chronicles of Narnia, The Space Trilogy, Mere Christianity, and The Screwtape Letters. His initials are sometimes mistakenly expanded as “Charles” or “Christopher,” but neither is correct.

His brother, Warren Hamilton Lewis, was also a writer and historian. The brothers remained close and lived together for much of their adult lives. C.S. Lewis died in Oxford on 22 November 1963, the same day that U.S. President John F. Kennedy was assassinated.
