What was the first Tomb Raider game developed by Crystal Dynamics?
Answer
Tomb Raider: Legend
Answer
Tomb Raider: Legend
Tomb Raider: Legend was the first Tomb Raider game developed by Crystal Dynamics.
Released in 2006, Legend began a new direction for the series after Core Design had developed the earlier mainline games. Crystal Dynamics rebuilt Lara’s gameplay around more fluid movement, responsive platforming, modern equipment, and a clearer cinematic structure.
The story follows Lara’s search for the legendary sword Excalibur and connects the mystery to the disappearance of her mother. Locations include Bolivia, Peru, Japan, Ghana, Kazakhstan, Nepal, and England, giving the game the international scale associated with Tomb Raider.
Legend was followed by Tomb Raider: Anniversary in 2007 and Tomb Raider: Underworld in 2008. Anniversary is a remake of the 1996 original, but it was still developed by Crystal Dynamics. The 2013 Tomb Raider reboot continued the company’s stewardship of the series while changing Lara’s origin and survival-focused tone.
