The Tesla Model X was the first Tesla vehicle to use the company's distinctive falcon-wing doors.
Tesla unveiled the Model X in 2012 and began deliveries in 2015. It is a battery-electric sport utility vehicle with rear doors hinged in two sections, allowing them to rise upward rather than swing outward like conventional doors.
Tesla calls these doors falcon-wing doors. Their design helps passengers enter the second and third rows in tight spaces, although the mechanism is more complex than an ordinary door and requires sensors and articulated hinges.
The Model S was Tesla's earlier modern vehicle, but it is a sedan with conventional doors. The Model 3 and Model Y also use conventional side-door designs, while the original Roadster predates the Model X and has ordinary sports-car doors.
