What was the first street location of Starbucks before its 1976 move?
Answer
2000 Western Avenue
Answer
2000 Western Avenue
The first street location of Starbucks before its 1976 move was 2000 Western Avenue.
Starbucks opened there in Seattle on 30 March 1971. The original business was founded by Jerry Baldwin, Zev Siegl, and Gordon Bowker, initially focusing on selling roasted coffee beans, brewing equipment, and related products rather than the espresso drinks associated with Starbucks today.
In 1976, the store moved to 1912 Pike Place, inside Seattle’s Pike Place Market. That later address became famous as the “Original Starbucks,” but it was not the company’s first physical location. The common mix-up comes from treating the Pike Place shop as the first address rather than the successor location.
Howard Schultz later helped transform Starbucks into a café-focused chain after joining the company in the 1980s. The company’s early retail history therefore has two landmarks: 2000 Western Avenue, the first address, and 1912 Pike Place, the iconic location that followed.
