What was the first Pixar feature sequel, released before Cars 2?

The story behind the answer

Toy Story 2 was Pixar's first feature-film sequel, released in 1999.

The film continues the story of Woody, Buzz Lightyear, and the other toys from Toy Story. It began as a project intended for direct-to-video release but was expanded into a theatrical feature. Disney released Toy Story 2 in November 1999, and it became an important early example of a sequel receiving a major theatrical release from Pixar.

Cars 2 arrived much later, in 2011, and was Pixar's first sequel after the Toy Story films. Toy Story 3 followed in 2010, while Finding Dory was released in 2016. The distinction matters because Cars 2 was not Pixar's first sequel overall, although it was the first sequel to Cars. Toy Story 2 is also sometimes confused with the first Pixar film to receive a sequel, but that honor belongs to the Toy Story series because the original Toy Story was released in 1995.
