What was the first name of photographer Alfred Stieglitz, Georgia O'Keeffe's husband?

The story behind the answer

Georgia O'Keeffe's husband was named Alfred Stieglitz.

Stieglitz was an influential American photographer, gallery owner, and promoter of modern art. He first encountered O'Keeffe's abstract charcoal drawings in 1916, after they were shown to him by the artist and teacher Anita Pollitzer. Stieglitz exhibited the drawings at his New York gallery, 291, without initially meeting O'Keeffe in person.

O'Keeffe and Stieglitz began a long correspondence and married in 1924. He was more than her spouse: he helped introduce her work to New York audiences and photographed her extensively. Their relationship was also complicated, and both maintained significant artistic independence.

People sometimes identify Stieglitz only as a photographer, but his role in American art was broader. Through galleries and exhibitions, he supported European modernism and artists such as Paul Strand, Arthur Dove, and Marsden Hartley. His connection with O'Keeffe remains one of the most documented artist relationships in twentieth-century America.
