What was the final Splatfest theme in Splatoon?

The final Splatfest in Splatoon was Callie vs. Marie. It asked players to choose between the two Squid Sisters, the celebrity duo who presented Inkopolis news and hosted the game's Splatfests.

The event was held in July 2016 and became an important piece of the series' story. Marie won, while Callie lost. Splatoon 2 later reflected that result: Callie had disappeared and was being controlled by the villain D.J. Octavio, while Marie helped the new Agent rescue her. Nintendo and the developers had therefore tied the competitive event's outcome to the sequel's narrative.

This result is easy to confuse with Splatoon 2's own final Splatfest, Chaos vs. Order. That later event featured Pearl and Marina and helped set up themes in Splatoon 3. Other well-known choices, such as Cats vs. Dogs and Rock vs. Paper, were separate Splatfests rather than the original game's finale.
