What was the birth date of C.S. Lewis, the author of The Chronicles of Narnia?
Answer
29 November 1898
Answer
29 November 1898
C.S. Lewis was born on 29 November 1898 in Belfast, Ireland, now part of Northern Ireland.
His full name was Clive Staples Lewis, although he was widely known as C.S. Lewis and, among friends, as Jack. The nickname came from a childhood dog named Jacksie; after the dog died, Lewis adopted Jack as his own name.
Lewis grew up in a literary household with his older brother, Warren. His early education and voracious reading shaped the imagination later visible in both his Christian writing and fiction. He eventually became an Oxford scholar and then a professor at Cambridge.
The date is sometimes confused with the publication dates of his best-known books, which appeared decades later. The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe was published in 1950, while Mere Christianity developed from wartime radio broadcasts first delivered in the early 1940s.
