What was the Apollo 15 command module called?

The story behind the answer

What was the Apollo 15 command module called? The Apollo 15 command module was called Endeavour. Its crew included Commander David Scott, Command Module Pilot Alfred Worden, and Lunar Module Pilot James Irwin.

Endeavour was the command-and-service module that remained in lunar orbit while Falcon carried Scott and Irwin to the surface near Hadley Rille. Worden operated scientific instruments from orbit and later performed the first deep-space EVA, retrieving film cassettes from the service module during the journey home.

The name honored HMS Endeavour, the ship commanded by explorer James Cook during his first Pacific voyage. The choice also reflected Apollo 15’s emphasis on lunar science. The spacecraft carried a small piece of wood from Cook’s vessel, while the lunar module’s name, Falcon, honored the U.S. Air Force Academy mascot. Endeavour is now displayed at the National Museum of the United States Air Force.
