Taylor Swift’s “august” entered the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 at number 23.
The debut appeared on the chart dated August 8, 2020, shortly after Folklore’s release. The song charted for two consecutive weeks, an impressive result for an album track that was not released as a traditional lead single.
Its initial chart appearance came from the broad attention surrounding Folklore, which debuted during Swift’s surprise-release campaign. Later August resurgences were driven by seasonal listening and social-media use, giving the track a second kind of chart life beyond its original album-week performance.
The Hot 100 position should not be confused with the song’s rankings on other charts. “august” simultaneously debuted and peaked at number five on Billboard’s Hot Rock & Alternative Songs chart, while its later global peak was recorded on the Billboard Global 200.
