What was Pepsi originally called when Caleb Bradham created it?
Answer
Brad's Drink
Answer
Brad's Drink
Pepsi was originally called Brad's Drink when Caleb Bradham created it.
Bradham was a pharmacist who sold the beverage at his drugstore in New Bern, North Carolina. He developed the drink in 1893, several years after Coca-Cola had appeared in Atlanta. Brad's Drink was renamed Pepsi-Cola in 1898.
The new name was associated with digestion and kola nuts. The word “Pepsi” is commonly linked to dyspepsia, an old term for indigestion, although the branding also emphasized the drink's kola flavor. The early product was sold from a soda fountain before bottling expanded its reach.
People sometimes confuse Brad's Drink with Pepsi-Cola, but they identify different stages of the same product's history. Pepsi-Cola later became Pepsi, the name used by the modern brand.
