Speedee was the mascot name shown in McDonald's early 1950s logo.
The logo used a smiling chef figure to promote the restaurant's Speedee Service System. Richard and Maurice McDonald developed that system at their San Bernardino restaurant by reducing the menu and organizing food preparation for rapid, consistent service.
Speedee's presence connected the logo directly to the restaurant's main competitive idea: customers could receive familiar food quickly. The character therefore served both as a mascot and as a visual explanation of the business model.
Later McDonald's branding became dominated by the Golden Arches, Ronald McDonald, and the McDonaldland cast. That shift can make Speedee easy to overlook, but he belongs to the company's earliest identity. He is also distinct from Mac Tonight, a much later character used in advertising during the 1980s.
