Speedee was McDonald’s first mascot in its early advertising.
Speedee was depicted as a chef-like figure and represented the restaurant’s emphasis on fast service. The name connected directly with the Speedee Service System developed by the McDonald brothers, which organized kitchen work for quick, consistent hamburger production.
The mascot is often overshadowed by Ronald McDonald, who became the company’s best-known advertising character after appearing in television commercials during the 1960s. Speedee nevertheless remained important to the brand’s early identity and appeared in signage and promotional material.
Speedee should not be confused with the later Golden Arches logo or with a menu item. The figure belonged to the period when McDonald’s branding emphasized speed and streamlined service as distinctive advantages in the growing drive-in restaurant market.
