Before Microsoft acquired LinkedIn, the company traded on the New York Stock Exchange under the ticker symbol LNKD.
LinkedIn went public on May 19, 2011. Its initial public offering priced shares at $45 each, and the stock began trading under LNKD. The debut attracted intense attention because demand was strong for a rapidly growing professional network, and the shares closed their first trading day at $94.25.
LNKD was the company’s market identifier throughout its years as a public corporation. It should not be confused with LNK, LIND, or LKND, none of which was LinkedIn’s official NYSE ticker. The symbol also appeared in financial headlines, investor filings, and market data before the company left the public market.
Microsoft announced its agreement to acquire LinkedIn in June 2016. After the transaction closed in December 2016, LinkedIn became a wholly owned Microsoft subsidiary and was no longer publicly traded. Consequently, LNKD was delisted from the NYSE.
