222 Second Street
Answer
222 Second Street
In April 2014, LinkedIn leased 222 Second Street in San Francisco for up to 2,500 employees.
The 26-story tower was built in San Francisco’s South of Market district and contains roughly 450,000 square feet of office space. LinkedIn signed a lease for the entire building, reportedly covering 10 years, to bring its San Francisco workforce together under one roof.
The building was still under construction when the lease was announced. Construction began in 2013, the tower was topped out in August 2014, and it opened in March 2016. LinkedIn employees moved in through several phases rather than occupying the building all at once.
The address is easy to confuse with prominent San Francisco skyscrapers such as Salesforce Tower, 555 California Street, or 181 Fremont. Those are separate buildings. 222 Second Street also became notable for its public-facing ground floor, which includes large artworks by Frank Stella. LinkedIn continued leasing the building even as workplace patterns changed during the COVID-19 era.
