Answer
The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill
Lauryn Hill’s 1998 debut solo album, which won the Grammy for Album of the Year, was The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill.
Columbia Records released the album on August 25, 1998. Hill wrote and produced much of the project after achieving fame as a member of the Fugees, whose album The Score had won a Grammy and sold widely.
The album blends hip hop, soul, R&B, reggae, and singing-songwriter influences. Its singles included “Doo Wop (That Thing),” “Ex-Factor,” and “Everything Is Everything.” At the 41st Grammy Awards in 1999, it won Album of the Year and made Hill the first woman to win five Grammys in one ceremony.
The title is sometimes shortened incorrectly to “Miseducation.” The full official title is The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill, a reference to Carter G. Woodson’s book The Mis-Education of the Negro.
