Answer
Abiquiú Home and Studio
Georgia O’Keeffe’s New Mexico home and studio near Abiquiú was called the Abiquiú Home and Studio.
O’Keeffe acquired the abandoned adobe house in Abiquiú in 1945 and had it restored with architect Juan Hamilton. She moved there permanently in 1949, and the property became both a residence and an important working environment.
The house includes a distinctive black door set in a thick adobe wall. O’Keeffe repeatedly painted and photographed this architectural feature, making it one of the most recognizable motifs connected with her later work. The surrounding landscape also provided views toward the cliffs and high desert.
The Abiquiú property is sometimes confused with Ghost Ranch, where O’Keeffe also lived and worked. Ghost Ranch is a separate location about 60 miles north of Santa Fe. The home and studio is now preserved as a historic site and is managed through the Georgia O’Keeffe Museum.
