Georgia O'Keeffe's best-known home and studio near Abiquiú is called Abiquiú House.
O'Keeffe acquired the abandoned hacienda in Abiquiú, New Mexico, in 1945 and restored it over several years. She moved into the property in 1949, after Stieglitz’s death, and used it as both a residence and a working studio. The house’s courtyard wall and black door became recurring subjects in her paintings.
The property is distinct from Ghost Ranch, another New Mexico place strongly linked to O'Keeffe. Ghost Ranch was a separate retreat and landscape source north of Abiquiú. O'Keeffe maintained a home there as well, but the Abiquiú property became her permanent base.
The Georgia O'Keeffe Museum manages the Abiquiú Home and Studio as a historic site. Its rooms, garden, tools, and architectural details help explain how ordinary built forms became important elements in her art.
