What was Georgia O'Keeffe's 1917 teaching post in Texas?

The story behind the answer

Georgia O'Keeffe taught at West Texas State Normal College in 1917.

O'Keeffe joined the faculty of West Texas State Normal College in Canyon, Texas, in 1916 and taught there until 1918. The college trained teachers, and her position gave her time to develop her own work while living in the Texas Panhandle.

During the summer of 1917, she traveled to New Mexico for the first time. The landscapes and architecture she encountered on that trip had a lasting effect, and her experience in the Southwest became an important bridge between her early abstract experiments and her later regional subjects.

The institution is now known as West Texas A&M University. That modern name can cause confusion when identifying O'Keeffe's historical workplace. She was not teaching at the University of Texas in Austin; her post was in Canyon, near the Palo Duro region.
