What was Dell originally called when Michael Dell founded it in 1984?

The story behind the answer

Dell was originally called PC’s Limited when Michael Dell founded it in 1984.

Michael Dell started the business while studying at the University of Texas at Austin. The company sold IBM-compatible personal computers built from stock components, allowing customers to order systems directly instead of buying through traditional retailers.

This direct-sales approach helped the young company reduce inventory and tailor computers to individual customers. PC’s Limited later changed its name to Dell Computer Corporation in 1988, and the business eventually became Dell Inc.

Michael Dell became one of the youngest chief executives of a major company when Dell went public in 1988. The company later expanded beyond personal computers into servers, storage and enterprise technology. A common mix-up is treating Dell Computer Corporation as the original 1984 name; that was the later corporate name.
