What was C.S. Lewis’s birth date in Belfast?

C.S. Lewis was born on 29 November 1898 in Belfast, Ireland. His birth name was Clive Staples Lewis, although he later became widely known by his initials and the nickname Jack.

Lewis grew up in a literary family with his older brother, Warren. His mother died when he was young, and his early education included several schools in Ireland and England. These experiences, along with his imaginative childhood reading, influenced his later writing.

Lewis is sometimes mistakenly given a birth year of 1897 or 1899, but 1898 is the documented year. His birthday came just over 64 years before his death in Oxford in 1963, making his life span unusually close to the length of the twentieth century.
