What university did Georgia O'Keeffe attend in 1912?

The story behind the answer

Georgia O'Keeffe attended the University of Virginia in 1912.

She studied there during the summer, taking classes that helped her qualify for teaching work. O'Keeffe had already received formal art training at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago and the Art Students League in New York, but financial circumstances made teaching an important part of her early career.

Her time at the University of Virginia also connected her with the ideas of Arthur Wesley Dow, whose approach emphasized composition, line, color, and personal expression rather than copying nature literally. O'Keeffe later taught art and used these principles in her own experiments with abstraction.

The university is sometimes confused with Columbia University, where O'Keeffe studied under Dow in New York beginning in 1914. Her 1912 summer study, however, took place at the University of Virginia, several years before her major New York recognition.
