What university did George Lucas attend?
Answer
University of Southern California
Answer
University of Southern California
George Lucas attended the University of Southern California, where he studied filmmaking at the USC School of Cinematic Arts. He graduated from USC in 1967 after transferring from Modesto Junior College.
At USC, Lucas made the student short film Electronic Labyrinth: THX 1138 4EB, a visually inventive science-fiction work that later became the basis for his feature debut, THX 1138. The university also placed him among a talented group of film students, including Walter Murch, Hal Barwood, John Milius and Randal Kleiser.
Lucas’s USC years connected him with filmmaker Francis Ford Coppola, who later helped him develop professional opportunities in Hollywood. Lucas worked with Coppola at American Zoetrope before founding Lucasfilm. His education therefore shaped both his technical style and the creative network that helped launch his career. The common mix-up is assuming he attended UCLA or UC Berkeley; his principal film-school education was at USC.
