What type of Pokémon is Pikachu in the main Pokémon games?

Pikachu is an Electric-type Pokémon in the main Pokémon games.

Its design reflects that typing: Pikachu stores electricity in red cheek sacs and can discharge it through moves such as Thunder Shock and Thunderbolt. Its lightning-bolt-shaped tail reinforces the electric theme.

Pikachu is listed as National Pokédex number 25. It evolves from Pichu when its friendship is high and evolves into Raichu when exposed to a Thunder Stone in the main series. Those evolutionary details were added across different generations rather than all appearing in the original games.

Pikachu became the franchise mascot largely because of its role alongside Ash in the animated series. The anime made Pikachu globally recognizable, but the species first appeared in the Game Boy games and remains an Electric type across the core series.
