What type of nationwide activity does America250’s America Gives initiative promote?

America250’s America Gives initiative promotes volunteer service nationwide.

The program encourages people, businesses, nonprofits, schools, faith communities, and civic groups to contribute time and effort to their communities during the Semiquincentennial year. Its purpose is to connect the anniversary with practical public service rather than limiting participation to ceremonies or historical exhibits.

America Gives is one of several America250 tentpole programs. Others focus on student creativity, oral history, innovation, music, and the preservation of material for future generations.

The initiative’s name can be confused with fundraising campaigns because “giving” often refers to money. In America250’s program, however, the central emphasis is volunteerism and community impact. Participants can take part through local service activities across the United States.
