The Peggy Guggenheim Collection is primarily devoted to modern art.
Peggy Guggenheim assembled the collection in Europe and the United States during the 20th century. It includes major examples of Cubism, Surrealism, abstract art and other modern movements, with works by artists such as Pablo Picasso, Joan Miró and Jackson Pollock.
The collection is displayed in Venice at Palazzo Venier dei Leoni on the Grand Canal. Guggenheim lived there and opened her collection to the public before the institution became part of the Solomon R. Guggenheim Foundation network.
“Modern art” is broader than a single movement. The collection spans several styles and decades, so it should not be described as exclusively Surrealist or exclusively abstract.
