What type of instrument was recreated for the sound of Odysseus's bow in The Odyssey (2026)?

The story behind the answer

An ancient lyre was recreated for the sound of Odysseus’s bow in The Odyssey (2026).

Composer Ludwig Göransson included the sound of an ancient lyre when Odysseus plucks his bow. The instrument helped connect the score’s musical language to the Bronze Age setting and to the culture represented in Homer’s epic.

The score also used bronze gongs, synthesizers, bronze instruments, the ancient aulos, Albanian folk chorals, flutes, and sheet-metal alarm drums. Göransson wanted to avoid the conventional orchestral sound often associated with sword-and-sandal films.

Musicians Callum Armstrong and Rosa Fragorapti played replicas of ancient instruments. Because the originals are obsolete, the musicians researched historical source material to use the replicas appropriately.
