What type of animal is Nemo from the movie Finding Nemo?

Nemo from Finding Nemo is a clownfish. In the film, Nemo is a young reef fish who lives with his father, Marlin, inside a sea anemone on Australia's Great Barrier Reef.

Nemo resembles an ocellaris clownfish, also called a false percula clownfish. Clownfish have orange bodies, white bands, and a special relationship with sea anemones. Their mucus-coated skin protects them from the anemone's stinging tentacles, allowing them to shelter there while the anemone gains protection and food scraps.

The movie's story begins when Nemo is captured by a diver and taken to a dentist's aquarium in Sydney. Marlin travels across the ocean to find him, meeting Dory and many other sea creatures along the way. Nemo's small, partly deformed fin is called his “lucky fin,” although the film uses the idea mainly as part of his character's story.

A common mix-up is confusing Nemo with Dory, who is a regal blue tang, or with the sharks and dolphins seen during the journey.
