In which movie does a girl named Dorothy travel to a magical land?
Answer
The Wizard of Oz
Answer
The Wizard of Oz
The girl named Dorothy travels to a magical land in The Wizard of Oz.
The best-known version is MGM’s 1939 musical film, starring Judy Garland as Dorothy Gale. A tornado carries Dorothy and her dog, Toto, from their Kansas farm to the Land of Oz. Her house lands in Munchkinland, where she learns that the Wicked Witch of the East has been defeated.
Dorothy follows the yellow brick road to the Emerald City, hoping the Wizard can help her return home. Along the way, she becomes friends with the Scarecrow, Tin Man, and Cowardly Lion. Each hopes the Wizard will give them something they believe they lack: a brain, a heart, or courage.
A common mix-up is confusing the movie with L. Frank Baum’s 1900 book, The Wonderful Wizard of Oz, on which it is based. The film also changed some details: Dorothy wears ruby slippers in the 1939 movie, while Baum’s original story features silver shoes. The Wizard of Oz is also different from The Wiz, a later musical adaptation set in a more modern version of Oz.
