What traveling forensic-science exhibit was inspired by CSI?
Answer
CSI: The Experience
Answer
CSI: The Experience
The traveling forensic-science exhibit inspired by CSI was CSI: The Experience.
The exhibition translated the television franchise’s crime-solving format into an interactive museum experience. Visitors investigate staged crime scenes, collect evidence and use laboratory-style stations to explore subjects such as trace evidence, fingerprints, blood patterns, DNA and digital evidence.
CSI: The Experience was developed for the Science Museum Exhibit Collaborative by the Fort Worth Museum of Science and History, in partnership with CBS Consumer Products and the National Science Foundation. The foundation provided $2.4 million for the exhibition and a related CSI Web Adventure aimed at underserved young people.
The exhibit was not simply a display of television props. It used three fictional crime scenes, two crime laboratories and an autopsy room to guide visitors through evidence collection and interpretation. A common mix-up is to treat the title as a television spin-off or a temporary promotional display; it was instead a touring educational exhibition that visited museums and science centers in the United States, Europe and Asia.
