What title does Mater receive after being knighted in Pixar’s Cars 2?

Mater receives the title “Sir Tow Mater” after being knighted in Pixar’s Cars 2.

Mater is an optimistic tow truck from Radiator Springs who becomes involved in an international espionage adventure after traveling with Lightning McQueen. Near the end of the film, Queen Elizabeth II recognizes his actions and knights him, creating the punning title “Sir Tow Mater.”

The joke combines “tow mater,” a pronunciation of “tow matter,” with the honorific “Sir.” Mater’s new title is a humorous payoff to the movie’s British setting and spy-film parody. He is not transformed into royalty; the knighting is an honorary recognition by the queen.

The character was voiced by Larry the Cable Guy, whose comic delivery helped make Mater a central figure in the Cars franchise. Mater’s role in Cars 2 is much larger than in the original Cars: he becomes the accidental investigator who notices clues that trained spies initially overlook.
