Answer
25th Anniversary Edition
Answer
25th Anniversary Edition
The special edition Golf GTI released for the model’s 25th anniversary was the 25th Anniversary Edition.
Volkswagen introduced the GTI 25th Anniversary Edition in 2001 to commemorate 25 years since the original Golf GTI debuted in 1976. It was based on the fourth-generation Golf GTI and added performance and styling equipment beyond the standard model.
The edition featured a 180 PS 1.8-litre turbocharged engine, a six-speed manual gearbox, larger brakes, lowered sports suspension, Recaro seats, BBS alloy wheels, and distinctive red detailing. Production was limited to 3,000 European cars, divided among Tornado Red, Reflex Silver, and Diamond Black.
In North America, a closely related version was sold as the GTI 337 Edition in 2002. That name referred to Volkswagen’s early internal codename for the Golf. It should not be confused with the later 20th Anniversary Edition, which marked the GTI’s North American introduction anniversary and arrived in 2003.
