Damas is the Spanish word traditionally used for the female members of a quinceañera court.
The word damas means “ladies.” These attendants may participate in the entrance, formal dances, photographs, and other choreographed parts of the celebration. Their clothing is often coordinated with the event’s colors or theme.
A court can also include male attendants, commonly called chambelanes. The size and composition of the court are not fixed, however. Some celebrations have many attendants, while others use only a few or do not have a court at all.
Damas should not be confused with madrinas. Madrinas are female sponsors or honored supporters, while damas are attendants in the ceremonial court. Families may use different terms depending on region, language preference, and the style of the event.
